Với tiềm năng và lợi thế sẵn có, trong những năm qua, huyện Cần Giờ đã đẩy nhanh tốc độ phát triển một số lĩnh vực kinh tế then chốt như: nuôi trồng và đánh bắt thủy hải sản, sản xuất muối, thu hút du lịch, nông nghiệp và một số dịch vụ nhằm đưa dân chúng thoát ra khỏi sự nghèo đói và từng bước đuổi kịp các quận huyện khác của thành phố.
