Hàn Quốc là một ví dụ tiêu biểu trong việc áp dụng mô hình Quỹ đầu tư mạo hiểm Chính phủ theo hình thức Quỹ Mẹ. Năm 1997, sau sự ra đời của “Luật đặc biệt để thúc đẩy doanh nghiệp mạo hiểm”, chính phủ Hàn Quốc đã thí điểm thành công 2 mô hình Quỹ ĐTMH. Sự thành công của 2 mô hình thử nghiệm này đã thúc đẩy sự hình thành của các Quỹ ĐTMH tư nhân. Năm 2005, nhằm thúc đầy thị trường ĐTMH sau khủng hoảng tài chính, Chính phủ Hàn Quốc đã thành lập Quỹ Mẹ (Korea Fund of Funds). Sự thành công của mô hình này đã thúc đẩy số lượng các Quỹ tư nhân tham gia ĐTMH và số lượng doanh nghiệp nhận được đầu tư liên tục tăng từ năm 2005 đến năm 2014.
