Việt Nam là nước có tài nguyên năng lượng gió lớn, đủ khả năng phát triển các dự án điện gió với quy mô lớn. Bản đồ tiềm năng gió của Ngân hàng Thế giới (Wind Energy Resource Atlas of Southeast Asia - Worldbank, 2001) được lập dựa trên phương pháp mô phỏng bằng mô hình số trị khí quyển. Kết quả cho thấy tiềm năng gió lý thuyết ở độ cao 65m của Việt Nam lớn nhất so với các nước trong khu vực Đông Nam Á với quy mô 513.360MW.

Vietnam is a country with huge wind energy resources, capable of developing projects with large-scale wind power. Wind potential map of the World Bank (Wind Energy Resource Atlas of Southeast Asia - the World Bank, 2001) was prepared based on the simulation method by numerical atmospheric model. The results showed that the theoretical potential of wind at a height of 65 meters, the largest Vietnam compared to other countries in Southeast Asia to scale 513,360MW.
