Trong quá trình nghiên cứu về vương triều Nguyễn, để có được cái nhìn toàn diện,
khách quan về những đóng góp cũng như hạn chế của triều đại này, cần phải đánh giá
thấu đáo công cuộc kháng Pháp nửa sau thế kỉ XIX do vua Tự Đức và triều thần tiến hành.
Trên cơ sở xem xét một số khía cạnh của vấn đề thông qua các nguồn tư liệu, bài viết trình
bày một số ý kiến trong vấn đề đánh giá trách nhiệm đối với việc để mất nước của nhà
Nguyễn.
