Nhưng Du học không phải là con đường bằng phẳng hay dễ dàng mà ai đặt chân lên thì cũng có thể đi tới đích. Trong thực tế, có rất nhiều Du học sinh vì chưa chuẩn bị kĩ càng mà đã vội vã “lên đường”, dẫn tới các bạn gặp nhiều cú sốc khi đặt chân qua một đất nước mới, và đã có nhiều bạn đã bỏ cuộc giữa chừng. Một vài trường hợp vì gia đình có điều kiện nên các bạn chọn đi Du học, coi Du học như một kỉ nghỉ dài để các bạn tận hưởng cuộc sống ở một đất nước mới. Điều đó dẫn tới “Tiền mất tật mang”, không nhựng không học được gì mà còn uổng phí đi tiền của cha mẹ. Việc tăng số lượng Du học sinh cũng rất đáng lo ngại đến nền giáo dục và kinh tế ở Việt Nam. Nó làm tăng hiện tượng “chảy máu chất xám” khi các Du học sinh sau khi học xong không muốn trở về nước mà muốn sinh sống tại đất nước Du học vì điều kiện sống tốt hơn.
