Điều đầu tiên là chính là tôi được biết về gia đình nhiều thế hệ trong cách đối xử với du khách và đối với chính họ. Các thành viên trong gia đình thường quay quần để cùng ăn cơm trên sàn nhà. Điều này thật khá xa lạ đối với nước Úc chúng tôi, chỉ khi đi dã ngoại ngoài trời thì mọi người mới ngồi quây quần với nhau và thường thì mọi người mang theo tấm lót để trải nó trên cỏ và làm chỗ cho bữa tiệc dã ngoại. Tôi được mời đến ở các gia đình tại Hà Nội. Khi tôi đến thì tôi thấy các thức ăn đã được để sẵn ra sàn nhà. Cả gia đình ngồi quay quần với nhau thành vòng tròn, tôi cũng ngồi chung với họ. Tất cả các thức ăn được đăt ở giữa vòng tròn trên sàn nhà. Điều này thật thú vị thế nhưng với tôi thì đó là điều không bình thường. Bỡi vì chúng tôi thường ngồi ăn trên bàn và ghế.
