Cố Tổng thống Mỹ Nixon từng thừa nhận ném bom Việt Nam là "vô ích"

Theo AFP, trong cuốn sách mới với tựa đề "Những người cuối cùng của Tổng thống," tác giả Bob Woodward đã dẫn một đoạn ghi chép chưa từng được công bố của cố Tổng thống Mỹ Richard Nixon cho thấy vị tổng thống này hồi năm 1972 đã nói dối về tác động thực sự của hoạt động ném bom Việt Nam hòng giành được lợi thế khi tái tranh cử.
Tác giả Woodward cho hay Tổng thống Nixon đã ghi nguệch ngoạc ghi chú trên bên lề một báo cáo tối mật của Cố vấn An ninh Quốc gia khi đó là Henry Kissinger.
Ông Nixon viết: "Kissinger. Chúng ta đã có 10 năm kiểm soát toàn bộ không phận Lào và Việt Nam. Kết quả = 0. Đã có sai lầm nào đó với chiến lược hoặc Không quân."
Bên cạnh đó, nhà báo Woodward còn lưu ý rằng ghi chú trên được ông Nixon viết ra chỉ 1 ngày trước khi vị cựu tổng thống này cương quyết khẳng định trong cuộc phỏng vấn kéo dài 1 giờ đồng hồ với Kênh CBS News rằng chiến dịch ném bom là "cực kỳ hiệu quả."
Sau khi tiếp cận cuốn sách này, tờ Washington Post số ra ngày 12/10 đã khẳng định rằng đó là "một lời nói dối, và Tổng thống Nixon đã chứng tỏ ông biết rõ điều này.
