Trong lễ hội, một cuộc thi hào hứng liên quan đến vũ điệu Samba được tổ chức tại Sambadrom (Vũ trường Samba). Cuộc thi chọn ra 6 đội múa Samba thuộc các trường phái Samba xuất sắc nhất để tôn vinh và trao giải.

Hàng năm có hàng triệu du khách từ khắp nơi trên thế giới đã đến Rio de Janeiro - thủ đô của Brasil để tham dự lễ hội này.
