Nếu ai đã đến trung tâm Sài Gòn, hãy một lần ghé thăm dinh Độc Lập, hay còn gọi là dinh Thống Nhất một công trình tọa lạc trên mảnh đất rộng 15ha ngay giữa trung tâm thành phố. Công trình in đậm dấu ấn thời gian và lịch sửa nhưng cũng rất nên thơ và lãng mạn…. Sau khi chiếm đóng được luc tỉnh Nam Kỳ, ngày 23/02/1868 viên thống đốc Nam Kỳ đã cho xây dựng Dinh Thống Đốc Nam Kỳ mới tại Sài Gòn. Ngày nay toà nhà nằm ở cuối đường Lê Duẩn, trong khuôn viên rộng 12ha được bao bọc bởi bốn trục đường Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai – Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa – Nguyễn Du và Huyền Trân Công Chúa, thuộc địa bàn quận 1, thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. Dinh có nhiều tên gọi khác nhau qua các thời kỳ như: dinh Norodom (1889 – 1954), dinh Thủ tướng (9-1954 – 10-1956), dinh Độc Lập (10-1956 – 10-1976) và ngày nay là Hội trường Thống Nhất. Đây không chỉ là một công trình kiến trúc độc đáo mà còn gắn liền với nhiều sự kiện lịch sử trọng đại của nước nhà.
