Đường lên đỉnh olympia là chương trình truyền hình dành cho học sinh phổ thông. Được chiếu vào chủ nhật hàng tuần lúc 1:30 trên kênh vtv3. Một năm được chia thành 53 cuộc thi, trong đó 36 cuộc thi tuần, 12 cuộc thi tháng và 4 cuộc thi quý .cuối cùng là 1 cuộc chung kết. Có 4 vòng trong 1 cuộc thi : khởi động, vượt chướng ngại vật, tăng tốc và về đích. Ở phần khởi động thí sinh được trả lời 12 câu hỏi tối đa trong vòng 1 phút với các lĩnh vực khác nhau: toán, hoá, sinh, lý,... Mỗi câu trả lời đúng được 10 điểm, trả lời sai không bị trừ. Kết thúc mỗi vòng, người dẫn chương trình sẽ đọc tên người dẫn đầu sau mỗi phần thi. Vòng 2 là vượt chướng ngại vật, với 4 từ hàng ngang chính là gợi ý liên quan đến ý nghĩa chướng ngại vật cần tìm. Mỗi thí sinh có tối đa 1 lượt lựa chọn trong 4 từ hàng ngang . Cả 4 thí sinh phải trả lời câu hỏi trong thời gian 15 giây 1 câu. Trả lời đúng thí sinh được cộng 10 điểm. Mở được 1 từ hàng ngang tương ứng 1 góc bức tranh sẽ được mở ra. Thí sinh có thể bấm chuông trả lời bức tranh bất cứ lúc nào. Trả lời đúng hàng ngang đầu điểm tương ứng là 80 , hàng ngang hai là 60 , ba là 40 và cuối cùng là 20 điểm. Nếu bấm chuông trả lời sai chướng ngại vật thí sinh se bị loại khỏi vòng thi này. Vòng 3 là tăng tốc, có 4 câu hỏi tư duy hoặc bằng hình ảnh, thời gian suy nghĩ là 30 giây. Thí sinh trả lời đúng nhanh nhất được 40 điểm , nhanh thứ 2 là 30 , nhanh thứ 3 và 4 lần lượt là 20 và 10. Vòng cuối cùng "về đích" có 3 gói cho thí sinh lựa chọn 40, 60 và 80 tương ứng với mức độ dễ đến khó. Gói 40 gồm 2 câu hỏi 10 và 1 câu 20. Gói 60 1 câu 10, 1 câu 20 và hai câu 30. Thí sinh trả lời sai câu hỏi trong gói quyền trả lời sẽ được dành cho 3 người còn lại bằng cách bấm nút nhanh. Trả lời đúng sẽ nhận được được điểm trả lời sai sẽ bị trừ nửa số điểm của câu hỏi.
