Tổng sản phẩm trong nước (GDP) năm 2016 ước tính tăng 5,93% so với cùng kỳ năm trước, tiếp tục duy trì tốc độ tăng trưởng GDP quý sau cao hơn quý trước (Quý I tăng 5,48%, quý II tăng 5,78% và ước tính quý III tăng 6,40%) nhưng vẫn thấp hơn mức tăng 6,53% của cùng kỳ năm 2015. Nguyên nhân chủ yếu do ngành công nghiệp khai khoáng tiếp tục giảm sút và nông nghiệp tăng trưởng thấp hơn mức tăng cùng kỳ năm trước. Trong mức tăng 5,93% của toàn nền kinh tế năm nay, khu vực nông, lâm nghiệp và thủy sản tăng 0,65%, là mức tăng thấp nhất so với cùng kỳ 6 năm gần đây, đóng góp 0,11 điểm phần trăm vào mức tăng chung; khu vực công nghiệp và xây dựng tăng 7,50%, đóng góp 2,52 điểm phần trăm; khu vực dịch vụ tăng 6,66%, đóng góp 2,55 điểm phần trăm.
