Tôi sẽ chẳng bao giờ quên hình ảnh bàn tay đen đúa, khô ráp nhưng ấm áp của người dân bản địa nắm lấy tay tôi khi nhận được món quà cả đoàn mang từ Hà Nội tới; hình ảnh những em bé 5, 6 tuổi, tay chân, mặt mũi lấm lem, đứa thì địu em trên lưng, đứa thì nghịch cát, nghịch sỏi chạy lăng xăng trong khoảnh sân bé xíu của trường Tiểu học Pa Cheo.

Tôi sẽ nhớ giây phút được các em nhỏ học cấp 2 dạy tiếng H’Mông, được nói chuyện, được chơi với các em thật nhiều trò. Những trò chơi tưởng chừng như vô cùng đơn giản và quen thuộc với trẻ em miền xuôi thì ở trên này các em lại không biết. Thiệt thòi hơn nhiều thứ nhưng các em lại sớm trưởng thành từ nhỏ. Ở Pa Cheo, nhà thưa thớt và cách nhau rất xa, muốn đi học các em phải đi bộ 15, 16 cây số để đến trường. Bình thường , các em ở lại kí túc xá, mỗi tuần về nhà 1 lần vào Chủ nhật. Xa gia đình, tất cả các công việc: nấu cơm, rửa bát, giặt giũ, dọn dẹp,… các em đều tự mình làm. Cuộc sống khó khăn, nghèo đói nhưng em nào cũng rất sáng dạ, nhanh nhẹn, đôi mắt đen láy lúc nào cũng hấp háy cười.
