Một thống kê gần đây của bộ thông tin và truyền thông cho thấy trong ba tháng đầu tiên của năm 2013, hơn 50 đầu sách của 27 nhà xuất bản đều có những thông tin và hình ảnh thiếu chính xác về địa lý, lịch sử và chủ quyền quốc gia Việt Nam.
Hầu hết các cuốn sách này đều là sách thuộc lứa tuổi mẫu giáo và tiểu học.
Điều này đã làm dấy lên những mối lo ngại trong các bậc phụ huynh về những sự ảnh hưởng tiêu cực của những quyển sách này đối với thiếu nhi.
