Astronomers know that Venus was going through the Sun in June, 1769, but can only observe this phenomenon in the southern hemisphere. The British Government decided they must observe this phenomenon should have established a working group led by the Cook. Aboard the Cook also astronomer Charles Green and Joseph Banks, have the duty to observe the path of Venus and collected plants from abroad. Cook started the journey from Plymouth, England, on June 8, 1768 to arrive in Tahiti, the largest island in the islands of French Polynesia in the South Pacific.
