Di sản thiên nhiên thế giới- vịnh Hạ Long đang bị sức ép rất lớn từ đội tàu du lịch khổng lồ. Việc quá nhiều tàu hoạt động đang gây ô nhiễm nặng về môi trường, nhất là mặt nước vịnh do hầu hết các tàu đều chưa có hệ thống xử lý nước thải. Điều đáng lo ngại nhất là, dù đội tàu du lịch nằm dưới sự quản lý, kiểm soát của đủ các sở, ngành liên quan như giao thông, công an, Ban quản lý vịnh, du lịch…, nhưng vẫn xảy ra những tai nạn gây thương vong, tổn thất về tài sản.
Trong tương lai loại hình kinh doanh tàu lưu trú, ngủ đêm trên vịnh Hạ Long và vịnh Bái Tử Long sẽ không còn, chỉ còn tàu vận chuyển khách tham quan trong ngày theo từng tuyến.
