Ngân hàng thương mại khi cấp tín dụng với bất cứ một khách hàng nào thì điều cần phải có thông tin về khách hàng đó để có quyết định cho vay đúng đắn. Hoạt động tín dụng muốn đạt hiệu quả cao, an toàn cần phải có hệ thống thông tin hữu hiệu phục vụ công tác này. Do đó Trung tâm thông tin tín dụng (viết tắc là CIC) cần phải củng cố và hoàn thiện để việc truy cập thông tin tín dụng được nhanh chóng và chính xác, nhằm tránh các rủi ro trong hoạt động của các ngân hàng thương mại.
