USD là đồng tiền thanh toán quốc tế, vai trò thanh toán của nó ở Việt Nam vẫn còn rất lớn. Nợ công không hề giảm bớt trong những năm qua và đang tiệm cận ngưỡng an toàn, các khoản nợ phải trả cả gốc và lãi hằng năm của Chính phủ ngày một cao, dự trữ ngoại hối tăng về số lượng nhưng lại giảm tính theo tuần nhập khẩu, nhập siêu tăng dần... càng làm cho vai trò thanh toán của USD ở Việt Nam không hề yếu đi.
