1. Học tập

Học tập tại Singapore và VN khá căng thẳng, tuy nhiên mặt bằng chung thì học sinh Việt Nam dành nhiều thời gian cho việc học hơn. Chúng ta có thể quen thuộc với hình ảnh một học sinh cấp 2 hoặc cấp 3, sau khi học ca sáng tại trường sẽ chạy sô ca chiều tại lớp học thêm do giáo viên trên lớp tổ chức, và đến tối lại là một lớp bồi dưỡng nữa. Ở Singapore hầu hết học sinh quốc tế không đi học thêm (vì không có tiền để trả, vì quá phiền,vì không có bố mẹ thúc giục), nên ngày học có thể kết thúc vào 1h (sớm) hay 4-5h (ngày muộn hơn).

Sau giờ học, học sinh Singapore có thể nhờ thày giáo kèm riêng (hay gọi là book consultation) hoặc kèm theo nhóm nếu có phần không hiểu, nhưng học sinh phải chủ động lên lịch với thày cô để hỏi bài. Sau giờ học các bạn sẽ thấy rất nhiều nhóm nhỏ, gồm một giáo viên và 3-4 học sinh ngồi ở bàn ghế gỗ gần thư viện hay căng-tin, có khi đến 7-8h tối. Các trường trung học sẽ có cả chương trình bồi dưỡng cho học sinh quốc tế (như ở National Junior College có English tuition, 2 buổi 1 tuần vào tầm 7-9h).

Bài tập cũng không có nhiều bằng so với ở Việt Nam, nhưng tổng khối lượng kiến thức thì không hề ít hơn, nên việc học tập ở Singapore không phải là dễ dàng.

Tuy ít hơn về số giờ học, nền giáo dục Singapore quan tâm đặc biệt đến chất lượng. Việc giở phao hay gian lận trong thi cử là cấm kỵ. Gian lận một lần có thể bị đuổi học (hoặc trả về nước đối với học sinh quốc tế). Hơn nữa, các môn học cũng ít tập trung vào học thuộc lòng. Những môn học thuộc lòng nhiều nhất (so với các môn khác) như Sử địa, thì với cách dạy của Singapore, các bạn sẽ thấy nếu kiểm tra học thuộc sẽ dễ được điểm hơn nhiều, do học thuộc chỉ là phần nhỏ nhất (để có dẫn chứng) khi viết bài thi. Đối với các môn tự nhiên, ngoài việc hiểu khái niệm, học sinh còn phải luyện tập nhiều để nắm vững cách trình bày (bài học xương máu của người viết). Các môn xã hội thì ngoài hiểu biết về nội dung còn cần cách tư duy mới có thể làm được bài thi.

Ngoài ra trong chương trình A-level còn một môn học bắt buộc gọi là General Paper mà 80% học sinh Việt Nam vô cùng sợ, nôm na là kiểm tra khả năng nghị luận xã hội và kỹ năng đọc hiểu bằng tiếng Anh. Hơn nữa, học sinh bản địa cũng vừa chăm vừa giỏi, lại có ý thức tự học do đã được rèn luyện từ nhỏ, nên sự ganh đua còn khó khăn hơn so với Việt Nam.

2. Sinh hoạt

Một điểm khác biệt rất lớn giữa cuộc sống của học sinh bên Singapore và Việt Nam là sinh hoạt ngoại khóa. Nếu như nhiều bố mẹ còn không cho con tham gia văn nghệ, thể thao vì sợ ảnh hưởng đến học hành, thì học sinh Singapore tham gia các hoạt độngrất tích cực. Số giờ tham gia câu lạc bộ tùy thuộc vào từng nơi, nhưng thông thường về mặt biểu diễn (nhảy, múa, chơi nhạc cụ) và thể thao (bóng bàn, bóng đá, bóng rổ, chạy, rugby, đua thuyền) sẽ là từ 6 tiếng (mùa nghỉ ngơi) đến 12 tiếng một tuần (hoặc hơn). Các bạn có thể thấy rằng CLB chiếm khá nhiều thời gian của học sinh, vậy tại sao họ vẫn tham gia?

- Để đẹp hồ sơ: Việc này khá thường gặp khi học sinh tham gia CLB chỉ để được cái danh thành viên, hoặc để được chức lãnh đạo. Nói chung là học sinh bên đó cũng khá ghét tính này, nên những người tham gia vì hồ sơ cũng không được lợi ích mấy.

- Vì ai cũng làm: Lí do này hơi kỳ, nhưng thực sự là nhiều khi có bạn tham gia CLB chỉ vì được rủ rê. Việc này cũng không có gì sai, nhưng nếu bạn bỏ lỡ một CLB bạn thích chỉ vì ngại gặp người mới và thích sự an toàn khi đi theo những người cùng quốc tịch, thì bạn đang hơi lãng phí thời gian.

- Vì đam mê: Không phải tất cả đều đam mê, nhưng không thiếu những người thực sự đam mê. Bạn có thể thấy có những học sinh hằng tuần có thể dành ra 15-20 tiếng tập đàn hoặc tập nhảy, thậm chí quay lại trường vào thứ 7 và Chủ nhật để chuẩn bị cho buổi biểu diễn, dù họ cũng rất cần thời gian học. Tại sao lại dại dột như vậy? Vì họ đang làm điều họ thích. Hãy tìm một đam mê để theo đuổi (nhưng đừng quên việc phải được điểm cao nhé).

Việc tham gia câu lạc bộ có gì tốt?
