Theo Cơ quan Thống kê nhà nước Italy (ISTAT), tỷ lệ thất nghiệp ở nước này trong tháng Tư vừa qua đã giảm xuống 12,4% từ mức 13% trong tháng Ba, tỷ lệ giảm cao nhất xét trên góc độ giảm người không có việc làm trong vòng một tháng kể từ năm 2012. So với tháng 3/2015, trong tháng Tư đã có thêm 159.000 việc làm được tạo ra và đây là một mức tăng kỷ lục kể từ hai năm rưỡi nay. Sau quý đầu năm 2015 với tỷ lệ thất nghiệp ở mức cao và số chỗ làm không được tạo thêm, tỷ lệ thất nghiệp giảm và việc làm mới gia tăng cho thấy những dấu hiệu tích cực của nền kinh tế Italy, sau khi nền kinh tế lớn thứ ba của khối các nước dùng đồng tiền chung euro thoát khỏi suy thoái kinh tế trong quý 1/2015.

Kể từ đầu năm cho tới nay, đã có 133.000 người kiếm được việc làm, tăng 0,6% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái. Số lượng người trên 55 tuổi ở Italy có việc làm đã tăng 267.000 so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái. Kể từ năm 2010 tới nay, do Italy nâng tuổi đối tượng về hưu, đã có thêm 1 triệu người trên 55 tuổi đi làm.
Tỷ lệ thất nghiệp ở Italy đã từng có lúc lên tới mức 13,6% vào cuối năm ngoái, mức cao chưa từng có kể từ khi ISTAT áp dụng các tiêu chí mới vào việc tính số người có việc làm và không có việc làm. Chính phủ Italy đã áp dụng một loạt các biện pháp cải cách thị trường lao động để nhằm đối phó với tình trạng thất nghiệp gia tăng. Tuy nhiên, báo chí Italy cho rằng còn quá sớm để khẳng định rằng tỷ lệ người có việc làm tăng và thất nghiệp giảm trong tháng Tư là hệ quả của các chính sách này.
