TEDx được tạo ra trên tinh thần sứ mệnh của TED, lan tỏa giá trị của những ý tưởng “Ideas worth spreading”. Chương trình TEDx tạo cơ hội cho các cộng đồng, tổ chức, và cá nhân một trải nghiệm tương tự như TED nhưng ở cấp độ địa phương. Nội dung và thiết kế của mỗi chương trình TEDx là duy nhất và được phát triển độc lập, nhưng tất cả những sự kiện TEDx đều có những điểm chung về cấu trúc và hình thức tổ chức như sau:
Hình thức tổ chức của TED là những bài diễn thuyết, những màn biểu diễn được chuẩn bị kỹ càng, ngắn gọn về nhiều lĩnh vực nhằm nuôi dưỡng sự học, nguồn cảm hứng và những điều đặc biệt, đồng thời kích thích các cuộc đối thoại.

Chương trình không mang tính thương mại, tôn giáo và chính trị.
Hơn 15,612 sự kiện được tổ chức, 1,598 sự kiện sắp diễn ra, và TEDxRMIT là một trong số đó.
