- Nước thải trong CNN chủ yếu là nước thải sinh hoạt từ nhà vệ sinh, nhà ăn có chứa nhiều hợp chất hữu cơ (BOD,COD), nhiều vi sinh, các chất rắn lơ lửng (SS), các chất dinh dưỡng (N,P) và vi trùng.
- Nước thải sản xuất của các ngành chế biến nông sản, thuỷ sản chứa nhiều cặn bã, vi sinh, hợp chất hữu cơ và vi trùng gây bệnh.
- Nước thải phải xử lý đạt tiêu chuẩn mới thải ra môi trường bên ngoài, nếu quản lý không tốt sẽ gây ô nhiễm môi trường, gây mùi hôi thối, lan truyền mầm bệnh, ảnh hưởng đến chất lượng của hệ thống nước ngầm cũng như nước mặt.
