- Ngay sau khi đổ bê tông, và trong vòng 7 ngày sau đó: bê tông phải được bảo dưỡng tránh hiện tượng khô quá nhanh và bảo vệ khỏi những tác động có hại của thời tiết như: mưa, sự thay đổi thời tiết đột ngột, gió… Những phương pháp bảo dưỡng được sử dụng phải tuân theo phê duyệt của tư vấn giám sát.
- Bảo dưỡng bê tông có tác dụng rất lớn để bê tông phát triển cường độ đúng với yêu cầu thiết kế. Phương pháp qui trình bảo dưỡng bê tông thực hiện theo TCXDVN 391-2007 “Bê tông nặng – Yêu cầu dưỡng ẩm”.
- Quá trình bảo dưỡng ẩm của bê tông được chia làm 2 giai đoạn: Bảo dưỡng ban đầu và bảo dưỡng tiếp theo. Hai giai đoạn này kế tiếp và liên tục với nhau.
- Bảo dưỡng ban đầu: Tưới nước hoặc phủ lên bề mặt bê tông bằng vật liệu đã được làm ẩm (cát phũ mặt, bao bố nhúng nước…) để giữ cho bê tông không bị mất nước do tác dụng của các yếu tố khí hậu bên ngoài (nắng, gió, nhiệt độ, độ ẩm…).
- Bảo dưỡng tiếp theo: Tiến hành kế tiếp với bảo dưỡng ban đầu cho tới khi bê tông đạt cường độ 100%. Trong giai đoạn này, thường xuyên tưới nước giữ ẩm bê tông; số lần tưới trong ngày tùy thuộc vào nhiệt độ, thời tiết, luôn luôn đảm bảo cho bề mặt bê tông luôn ẩm ướt. Thời gian bảo dưỡng bê tông thực hiện theo qui phạm bảo dưỡng của bê tông.
