b. Việc sử dụng phân bón và thuốc bảo vệ thực vật ở nước ta tăng nhanh


Việt Nam là nước xuất khẩu nông sản hàng đầu thế giới và cũng là thị trường tiêu thụ phân bón, hóa chất khổng lồ.
Theo số liệu của cục bảo vệ thực vật trong giai đoạn 1991-2000 số lượng thuốc sử dụng là 20 - 30 ngàn tấn thương phẩm và 36 - 75,8 ngàn tấn trong giai đoạn 2001-2007. Năm 2000 tiêu thụ 72,56 ngàn tấn. Tương ứng như vậy số lượng hoạt chất tính theo đầu diện tích canh tác (kg/ha) cũng tăng từ 0,67 - 1,0kg (1991-2000) lên 1,24 - 2,54kg (2001-2007). Giá trị nhập khẩu thuốc bảo vệ thực vật cũng tăng nhanh, năm 2008 là 472 triệu USD, năm 2009 là 488 triệu USD, năm 2000 là 537 triệu USD và 7 tháng đầu năm 2011 là 386 triệu USD.
