Công ty Thông tin Di động Việt Nam (Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company - VMS) là Doanh nghiệp Nhà nước được thành lập vào ngày 16 tháng 04 năm 1993, trực thuộc Tập đoàn Bưu chính Viễn thông Việt nam (VNPT), nay thuộc Bộ Thông tin & Truyền thông quản lý, VMS đã trở thành doanh nghiệp đầu tiên khai thác dịch vụ thông tin di động GMS 900/1800 với thương hiệu MobiFone, đánh dấu cho sự khởi đầu của ngành thông tin di động Việt Nam. Lĩnh vực hoạt động chính của MobiFone là tổ chức thiết kế xây dựng, phát triển mạng lưới và triển khai cung cấp dịch vụ mới về thông tin di động có công nghệ, kỹ thuật tiên tiến hiện đại và kinh doanh dịch vụ thông tin di động công nghệ GSM 900/1800, công nghệ UMTS 3G trên toàn quốc. Các dịch vụ của MobiFone ban đầu chỉ có dịch vụ thoại và SMS, nay đã phát triển thành hơn 10 gói cước khác nhau phục vụ đa dạng nhu cầu khách hàng là các thuê bao trả trước và trả sau, các dịch vụ tiện ích trên nền công nghệ 2G và 3G và hơn 50 dịch vụ giá trị gia tăng.
