Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám là quần thể

Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám là quần thể di tích đa dạng và phong phú hàng đầu của thành phố Hà Nội, nằm ở phía nam kinh thành Thăng Long thời nhà Lý.

Trong Văn miếu chia làm 5 khu vực rõ rệt:

Khu thứ nhất: bắt đầu với cổng chính Văn Miếu Môn đi đến cổng Đại Trung Môn, hai bên có cửa nhỏ là Thành Đức Môn và Đạt Tài Môn.

Khu thứ hai: từ Đại Trung Môn vào đến khuê Văn Các, Hai bên phải trái Khuê Văn Các là Bi Văn Môn và Súc Văn Môn dẫn vào hai khu nhà bia Tiến sỹ.

Khu thứ ba: gồm hồ nước Thiên Quang Tỉnh, có hình vuông. Hai bên hồ là 2 khu nhà bia tiến sĩ. Bia đặt trên lưng một con rùa. Hiện còn 82 tấm bia tiến sĩ về các khoa thi từ năm 1442 đến năm 1779, chia đều cho hai khu tả và hữu.

Khu thứ tư: là khu trung tâm và là kiến trúc chủ yếu của Văn Miếu, gồm hai công trình lớn bố cục song song và nối tiếp nhau. Toà ngoài nhà là Bái đường, toà trong là Thượng cung.

Khu thứ năm: là khu Thái Học, trước kia đã có một thời kỳ đây là khu đền Khải thánh, thờ bố mẹ Khổng Tử, nhưng đã bị phá hủy. Khu nhà Thái Học mới được xây dựng lại năm 2000.

Trong Văn Miếu có tượng Khổng Tử và Tứ phối (Nhan Tử, Tăng Tử, Tử Tư, Mạnh Tử). Ở điện thờ Khổng Tử có hai cặp hạc cưỡi trên lưng rùa.

Ngày nay, Khuê Văn Các ở Văn Miếu-Quốc Tử Giám đã được công nhận là biểu tượng của thành phố Hà Nội.
