Tôi sinh ra ở một vùng quê yên bình, nơi có những cánh đồng lúa vàng ươm, hàng cây xanh đầy ắp tiếng chim hót. Khi 18, tôi bước đến trung tâm thành phố Hà Nội. Tôi ngỡ ngàng trước những tòa nhà cao tầng, dòng xe cộ tấp nập và đặc biệt khói bụi ở khắp mọi nơi. Những con đường với ôt gà, ổ voi. Cũng là lúc tôi biết được tình trạng ô nhiễm môi trường ở Việt Nam. Cá ở hồ Tây chết nổi khắp hồ. Lũ lụt ở miền trung. Băng tuyết, sương muối xuất hiện ở nhiều nơi làm ảnh hưởng đến nông nghiệp, cạn kiệt tài nguyên, những cánh rừng bị tàn phá, những thay đổi khí hậu bất ngờ gây ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe con người. Đâu còn là Việt Nam với rừng vàng biển bạc.
Khi tôi lắng lòng tưởng tượng nên hình hài đất nước 20 năm sau, phát triển nhanh, xinh đẹp và thanh bình. Cùng với sự phát triển của khoa học và kĩ thuật là sự xuất hiện của những khu đô thị xanh mát được quy hoạch ngăn nắp, những con đường thẳng tắp trải dài như vô tận, không còn ổ gà, ổ voi. Sáng sớm là bầu không khí trong lành, dịu nhẹ với tiếng trẻ con vui đùa, những bài nhạc của bài tập thể dục, hàng cây bên dòng sông xanh
