Tuy nhiên, việc sử dụng công nghệ thông tin hiện còn chưa hiệu quả chiếm tới 59%; chỉ có 35% sử dụng dịch vụ hỗ trợ doanh nghiệp về công nghệ...Bà Tammy Phan (Giám đốc Đối tác chiến lược và Kênh bán hàng của Google châu Á, Thái Bình Dương, 2016) cho rằng, việc số hóa của các doanh nghiệp vừa và nhỏ còn chậm bởi nhiều thách thức. Mặt khác, có doanh nghiệp cho rằng việc số hóa tốn nhiều chi phí và thiếu cơ hội tiếp cận với các nguồn vốn đầu tư; thiếu chuyên môn kỹ thuật nội bộ; xã hội có thói quen dùng tiền mặt và lo lắng về vấn đề bảo mật. Những tư duy theo lối cũ đang là một rào cản không nhỏ trong tiến trình toàn cầu hoá các doanh nghiệp SME tại Việt Nam hiện nay
