Hai triệu người bị nghèo do sóng thần. Đó là kết quả nghiên cứu do Ngân hàng thế giới vừa mới công bố. Cũng theo nghiên cứu này tình trạng nghèo khổ do sóng thần gây ra sẽ phải mất nhiều năm mới khôi phục được. Trận động đất hôm 26/12/2004 đã cướp đi sinh mạng của 273,000 người và làm 2 triệu người khác lâm vào cảnh nghèo đói. Indonesia bị ảnh hưởng nặng nề nhất với hơn 1 triệu người nghèo.
