Chi phí cổ phần thường mới, hay vốn chủ sở hữu ngoại sinh ke thì cao hơn chi phí của thu nhập giữ lại ,vì chi phí phát hành liên quan đến việc bán cổ phiếu thường mới. Nên các doanh nghiệp sử dụng thu nhập giữ lại đến mức có thể vì chi phí sử dụng vốn thấp hơn
