Báo cáo tài chính (BCTC) cung cấp những thông tin tổng quát nhất về tình hình tài chính của doanh nghiệp nhằm đáp ứng nhu cầu hữu ích cho số đông những người sử dụng trong việc đưa ra các quyết định kinh tế cũng như quản lý vỹ mô nền kinh tế của Nhà nước.Vì thế BCTC có vai trò rất quan trọng trong lĩnh vực quản lý kinh tế, thu hút sự quan tâm của nhiều đối tượng ở bên trong cũng như bên ngoài doanh nghiệp.Trong tình hình hiện nay, nền kinh tế nước ta đang phát triển và dần hội nhập vào nền kinh tế thế giới, những điểm không tương đồng về truyền thống và thực hành kế toán là thử thách trước mắt trong những năm tới đòi hỏi hoàn thiện hơn hệ thống kế toán nói chung và công tác lập trình bày BCTC nói riêng nhằm thúc đẩy tăng cường hài hoà quốc tế.Nhà nước ta đã và đang đưa ra những chính sách, thông tư nghị định mới để hướng dẫn doanh nghiệp thực hiện tốt các chức năng công tác kế toán nhằm phát triển doanh nghiệp và nền kinh tế một cách bền vững. Để BCTC thực sự trở thành công cụ quan trọng trong quản lý kinh tế, việc lập và trình bày các thông tin trên BCTC cần được tuân thủ đúng các chuẩn mực kế toán và chế độ kế toán hiện hành.
