Noel (phiên âm tiếng Việt: Nô-en), từ tiếng Pháp Noël, dạng cổ hơnlà Naël, có gốc từ tiếng Latinh nātālis (diēs) có nghĩa là "ngày sinh". Cũng có ý kiến cho rằng tên gọi Noel xuất phát từ tước hiệu Emmanuel, tiếng Hebrew nghĩa là "Thiên Chúa ở cùng chúng ta", như được chép trong sách Phúc âm Matthêu.
