Phân tích về cái lợi, cái mất của việc vào wto, trước đây nhiều nhà nghiên cứu kinh tế và quan chức cho rằng wto sẽ giúp nước ta mở rộng thị trường xuất khẩu mà không phải chịu những phân biệt đối xử khi chưa phải là thành viên. Nhìn lại tốc độ phát triển kim ngạch xuất khẩu, tốc độ tăng trưởng gdp và nhiều tiêu chí khác...dường như một năm vào wto chưa giúp được chúng ta cải thiện gì nhiều ở mặt này. Những sôi động do wto đem lại thể hiện rõ hơn ở chính trên thị trường trong nước, kim ngạch nhập khẩu tăng cao, đầu tư nước ngoài, kể cả trực tiếp và gián tiếp, đổ vào ào ạt. Môi trường kinh doanh cũng dần dần được cải thiện dưới áp lực buộc phải thay đổi thể chế kinh tế phù hợp với tập quán quốc tế.
