Ông Trần Đại Tạo, Chủ tịch Hội Liên hiệp Văn học nghệ thuật tỉnh Sơn La cho biết: Hội đã mở trại sáng tác, gồm 25 hội viên tham gia, diễn ra trong 9 ngày cuối tháng 5. Mục đích của trại sáng tác là sưu tầm, chỉnh lý, nâng cao một số điệu xòe mang bản sắc văn hóa các dân tộc Sơn La.

Trải qua nhiều năm, xòe Thái đã phát triển thành nhiều điệu xòe khác nhau, tên gọi mỗi vùng cũng khác nhau, nhưng đều bắt nguồn từ những điệu xòe cơ bản đó là xòe vòng tròn (36 điệu xòe). Không phân độ tuổi, giới tính, không hạn chế số người tham gia, có thể xếp thành nhiều vòng tròn tùy theo số lượng người tham gia. Về động tác xòe, đều có những động tác cơ bản như cầm tay nhau, vỗ tay, tung khăn, chuyển chân, nhấc chân, người nghiêng phải, nghiên trái và nhiều động tác khác đều được cách điệu từ thực tế lao động sản xuất của cư dân vùng thượng nguồn sông Đà, cư dân trồng lúa nước và mang tính cộng đồng sâu sắc.
