Ở Mỹ được coi là nơi có nền văn hóa đa dạng và nhiều tập tục, do đó thật khó nói về một lễ giáng sinh chỉ của riêng người Mỹ. Các hoạt động trong lễ hội này sẽ tùy thuộc vào truyền thống văn hóa của mỗi gia đình. Lễ mừng Giáng sinh ở Mỹ có pha trộn hương sắc của Ireland, Australia, Ba Lan và Bỉ.

Lễ Giáng sinh tại Mỹ được kỷ niệm theo nhiều cách, mỗi cách phản ánh một truyền thống riêng. Những đứa trẻ của đảo Hawaii tin rằng ông già Noel đến từ một chiếc thuyền.

Những đứa trẻ ở Alaska mang theo những ngôi sao rất lớn trong khi chúng vừa đi vừa hát mừng Noel. Ở New Mexico, các gia đình trang trí những ngôi sao và đèn lồng giấy ở bên ngoài ngôi nhà của mình, còn ở Texas những đứa trẻ tham gia vào lễ hội Posadas giống như được tổ chức ở Mexico.

Sự kiện này bắt nguồn từ thành phố Melbourne vào năm 1937 và được duy trì cho đến ngày nay. Hàng ngàn người tụ tập cùng hát vang những bài Thánh Ca với ngọn nến trong tay, truyền đi thông điệp “hòa bình trên khắp trái đất và niềm vui đến mọi nhà.”

Ngày Giáng sinh ở Australia còn là ngày truyền thống của việc tặng quà và các sự kiện thể thao diễn ra như thi bóng chày và đua thuyền buồm.

Tại Zurich của Thụy Sỹ: ông già Noel ở đất nước này không cưỡi những con tuần lộc với chiếc mũi đỏ mà đi trên một chiếc xe buýt huyền thoại, chở trẻ em đi chơi vòng quanh khắp thành phố, hát hò với chúng và cho chúng một giỏ đầy kẹo.

Tại Việt Nam, dù không chính thức nhưng Giáng sinh dần dần được coi như một ngày lễ chung và thường được tổ chức vào đêm 24 và kéo sang rạng sáng ngày 25/12.

Trong những ngày này, cây thông Noel được trang trí ở nhiều nơi có thể là cây thật (thường là thông ba lá hoặc thông mã vĩ) hoặc cây bằng nhựa (ở các nước phương tây thường là họ Bách tán).

Trên cây, người Việt Nam thường treo các đồ trang trí nhiều loại nhưng thường là những cặp chuông, dây giả tuyết, những chiếc ủng, các gói quà tượng trưng và đèn trang trí giống như các nước phương Tây..../.
