Năm 1996, xưởng Sơn đi vào hoạt động tại nhà máy TMV với nhiệm vụ hoàn thiện công đoạn lớp sơn màu và sơn bóng phía ngoài (gọi là lớp Topcoat) của xe. Tại xưởng Sơn, quy trình sơn tiêu chuẩn gồm 5 bước được tóm tắt như sau:
• Tiền xử lý bề mặt xe: vỏ xe được làm sạch bề mặt, loại bỏ dầu mỡ và được phốt phát hóa bề mặt, đảm bảo khả năng chống gỉ và tạo độ bám dính với lớp sơn kế tiếp.
• Sơn nhúng chống gỉ: vỏ xe được nhúng trong bể sơn ED (còn gọi là sơn điện ly).
• Phun keo: Quy trình phun keo giúp làm kín các mép thép, đảm bảo cho chiếc xe chống lại được các tác động ngoại cảnh
• Sơn lót: Bước sơn lót được thực hiện nhằm tăng độ bám dính của lớp sơn màu bên ngoài với lớp sơn chống gỉ, tăng độ bóng cho lớp sơn màu và sơn bóng bên ngoài.
• Phun sơn màu và sơn bóng: Màu sẽ được phun lên trên lớp sơn lót bằng công nghệ sơn tĩnh điện, sau đó, xe sẽ được phun sơn bong lần cuối rồi tiếp tục được đưa qua lò sấy để làm khô bề mặt.
