Thiên Chúa muốn chúng ta cầu nguyện không chỉ riêng chúng ta nhưng còn là cho người khác nữa. Mỗi khi cầu nguyện, người tín hữu nhớ đến những khó khăn của đồng loại, những vấn nạn của cuộc đời và những nỗi ưu tư của bản thân mình về người khác. Khi ấy, cầu nguyện trở thành một thời khắc để lòng trắc ẩn trưởng thành. Niềm tin yêu vào những giá trị sống tích cực được triển nở trong sự mở rộng của con tim đến những vấn đề của người khác trong tâm thức yêu thương. Như thế, việc lớn lên trong cầu nguyện cũng chính là sự trưởng thành về lòng trắc ẩn, là sự lớn lên của con tim, của lòng thương yêu tha nhân, không những là cho những ai là thân thuộc nhưng cho chính kẻ thù của mình.
