 Công việc được giao tại cơ sở thực tập đôi khi không liên hệ với đề tài của sinh viên chọn. Do trong quá trình thực tập, công việc hàng ngày rất đa dạng và khác nhau, không theo một quy trình nào nhưng đề tài thực tập tập trung vào một chuyên môn, nghiệp vụ cụ thể nên rất khó để thống nhất giữa đề tài với nội dung công việc. Do đó, thay vì làm một đề tài cụ thể thì sinh viên tự do quan sát, tìm hiểu nhiều công việc và chỉ cần báo cáo quá trình làm việc và những kiến thức, kĩ năng tích lũy được qua đợt thực tập nghề nghiệp đó.
 Để sinh viên thực tập thành công, điều căn bản nhất là chương trình đào tạo trong nhà trường cần được xây dựng có chất lượng, gắn liền với thực tiễn nghề nghiệp.
