Lượng khách du lịch Việt Nam tới Tokyo năm 2014 tăng gần gấp rưỡi so với năm 2013, đạt 124.000 lượt người, nhờ chính sách nới lỏng thị thực và chính sách miễn giảm thuế mua sắm cho du khách của Nhật Bản.
Ông Takashi Yamamoto, Cục trưởng Cục công nghiệp và lao động thuộc chính quyền thành phố Tokyo, cho hay du khách Việt Nam sang Nhật Bản ngày càng tăng trong những năm vừa qua và đạt 124.000 lượt trong năm 2014, tăng gần 50% so với năm trước. Tuy nhiên, theo ông Takashi Yamamoto con số này vẫn chưa tương xứng với kỳ vọng của thành phố Tokyo.
Ông Takashi Yamamoto cho hay, rất nhiều du khách Việt Nam thích thú với thời tiết bốn mùa tại Tokyo, nét văn hóa pha trộn giữa hiện đại và truyền thống; đường phố náo nhiệt với hơn 100.000 quán ăn Nhật Bản ngon miệng. Đặc biệt, năm 2020, Tokyo sẽ đăng cai tổ chức Thế vận hội Olympic và Paralympic, dự kiến sẽ có rất nhiều đổi thay thú vị tại thành phố này.
