Tỷ lệ tử vong trung bình hàng năm do các bệnh truyền nhiễm gây ra là 30,0/100.000 dân, với dân số 13,6 triệu dân, hàng năm có trung bình 68.213 năm sống bị mất đi do tử vong sớm (YLL) và 14.668 năm sống tàn tật (YLD) do các bệnh truyền nhiễm gây ra. Còn trong báo cáo đánh giá tác động kinh tế và xã hội của các bệnh truyền nhiễm mới nổi năm 2008, Dịch cúm gia cầm năm 1997 tại Hồng Kông gây tổn thất hàng trăm triệu đô la cho chăn nuôi gia cầm, thương mại và du lịch hay Dịch Tả ở Peru năm 1991, khoảng 775 triệu đô la từ ngành công nghiệp đánh bắt cá, du lịch và thương mại bị mất vì một lệnh cấm tạm thời đối với xuất khẩu thủy sản... Tuy nhiên tại Việt Nam hiện vẫn chưa có một đánh giá cụ thể nào về tác động của dịch bệnh truyền nhiễm nguy hiểm đến sức khỏe, tuổi thọ và kinh tế của người dân và xã hội.
