Tỏa sáng giá trị văn hóa lịch sử
Di sản văn hóa Huế là tài sản đặc biệt chứa đựng những tinh hoa văn hóa qua nhiều giai đoạn lịch sử nối tiếp nhau. Đặc biệt trong thời kỳ Huế là Kinh đô - trung tâm chính trị, văn hóa quan trọng của Việt Nam qua 3 thế kỷ.
Tài sản đó thể hiện rõ sự kết tinh các giá trị văn hóa vật thể và phi vật thể qua nghệ thuật, kiến trúc, âm nhạc, lễ nghi, ẩm thực,..
.Quần thể Di tích Cố đô Huế được UNESCO công nhận là Di sản văn hóa thế giới và Âm nhạc cung đình Việt Nam - Nhã nhạc triều Nguyễn được UNESCO ghi vào danh mục Kiệt tác văn hóa phi vật thể đại diện của nhân loại, đây là những viên ngọc quý mà dân tộc Việt Nam đã đóng góp vào kho báu của nhân loại.
Ca Huế đã được Bộ Văn hóa, Thể thao và Du lịch đưa vào danh mục Di sản văn hóa phi vật thể quốc gia năm 2015
Sự hội tụ, kết tinh của di sản văn hóa Huế còn được thể hiện qua nhiều loại hình độc đáo như: Ca Huế, Ca kịch Huế, Tuồng, Lễ hội cung đình, Mỹ thuật, trang phục, nghề thủ công truyền thống...
Huế là xứ sở được mệnh danh là Kinh đô Phật giáo với nhiều chùa chiền, niệm phật đường, những ngôi danh lam cổ tự ra đời rất sớm đã thể hiện chiều sâu văn hóa của vùng đất lịch sử.
Huế là một trong 3 trung tâm lớn của đất nước có hệ thống bảo tàng độc đáo, hấp dẫn. Sự ra đời của 06 bảo tàng và 03 nhà trưng bày đã chứng minh đây là nơi lưu giữ rất nhiều cổ vật, rất nhiều sưu tập hiện vật quý giá trong đó có nhiều hiện vật được công nhận là bảo vật quốc gia.
Bảo tồn và phát huy di sản văn hóa phục vụ phát triển kinh tế - xã hội
Toàn tỉnh Thừa Thiên Huế hiện có gần 1000 di tích, trong đó 153 di tích được xếp hạng.
Với nguồn đầu tư trong nước và sự hỗ trợ của cộng đồng quốc tế nhiều công trình tiêu biểu, nhiều di tích quan trọng đã được trùng tu, bảo tồn.
Công tác điều tra, nghiên cứu, sưu tầm và bảo tồn các giá trị văn hóa phi vật thể những năm qua cũng được chú trọng, nhiều lễ hội đặc sắc đã được phục hồi và phát huy tại các kỳ Festival Huế, Festival Nghề truyền thống.
Việc giữ gìn và phát huy giá trị nhà vườn truyền thống trên địa bàn thành phố Huế, Làng cổ Phước Tích; phát huy du lịch cộng đồng Cầu ngói Thanh Toàn; bảo vệ và phát huy giá trị cảnh quan thiên nhiên ở vịnh Lăng Cô - Vịnh biển đẹp nhất thế giới, Vườn Quốc gia Bạch Mã... đã được cộng đồng quan tâm thực hiện.
Thừa Thiên Huế đang thực hiện Chiến lược quốc gia về tăng trưởng xanh đến năm 2020, xây dựng Huế trở thành đô thị “Di sản, văn hóa, sinh thái, cảnh quan, thân thiện môi trường”. Huế nhiều năm đã được chọn là thành phố tiêu biểu và trở thành điểm quan trọng của thế giới tổ chức các lễ phát động chiến dịch bảo vệ môi trường.
Đến năm 2015 du lịch và dịch vụ ở Thừa Thiên Huế đã đóng góp 56% vào GRDP của địa phương; lượng khách đến Huế đạt trên 3 triệu, trong đó 45% là khách nước ngoài, tăng trưởng lượng khách du lịch hàng năm đạt 12%, doanh thu du lịch hàng năm tăng 13 - 15%.
Văn hóa Huế đã trở thành biểu trưng, thể hiện rõ hồn cốt của dân tộc Việt và góp phần nâng cao vị thế văn hóa Việt Nam với thế giới, đây là điểm đến khám phá của cộng đồng quốc tế.
Thành phố Huế ngày nay đang khẳng định vị thế của trung tâm văn hóa du lịch, thành phố Festival đặc trưng của Việt Nam, thành phố bền vững môi trường, thành phố văn hóa ASEAN.
Những khó khăn đang tồn tại
Nhiều di tích quan trọng đang trong tình trạng thiếu nguồn vốn để trùng tu, bảo quản; Huế là thành phố di sản, thành phố bảo tàng và với yêu cầu khu vực khoanh vùng bảo vệ di tích lịch sử - văn hóa quy mô quá rộng, do vậy vẫn đang có một bộ phận lớn dân cư tồn tại trong khu vực bảo vệ di tích chưa giải tỏa được.
