Ngày 24/08/2012, 9 bồi thẩm viên tòa án Mỹ phán quyết Samsung phải bồi thường 1.05 tỷ đô la Mỹ cho công ty Apple, vì xâm phạm 6 sáng chế công nghệ điện thoại thông minh. Mức phạt vẫn thấp hơn yêu cầu 2.5 tỷ đô la Mỹ của Apple. Phán quyết cũng chỉ rõ Apple không xâm phạm 5 sáng chế của Samsung. Samsung chỉ trích phán quyết trên đã làm tổn hại đến sự phát triển của mảng di động. Tòa án ở Hàn Quốc phán quyết cả 2 công ty đều vi phạm sở hữu trí tuệ.
