Nhiều học giả trên thế giới nhận định rằng thiết chế hôn nhân và gia đình đã và
đang có nhiều biến đổi trên phạm vi toàn thế giới do tác động của quá trình hiện đại hóa
và toàn cầu hóa (Goode, 1963; Therborn, 2004). Tại Việt Nam, công cuộc Đổi mới và
hội nhập quốc tế sâu rộng hơn hai thập kỷ qua đã và đang tác động mạnh mẽ đến hệ
thống thiết chế xã hội, trong đó có thiết chế hôn nhân và gia đình. Những biến đổi mạnh
mẽ trong đời sống gia đình Việt Nam đã buộc loại hình thiết chế này thay đổi, hoàn
thiện nhằm phù hợp với thực tiễn xã hội.
