Qua kết quả 300 phiếu điều tra từ các gia đình có trẻ từ 0-5 tuồi của 4 trường mầm non tại nội và ngoại thành thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, chúng tôi thu được các kết quả cho thấy có en đến 37% trẻ dưới 5 tuổi bị mắc bệnh thừa cân, béo phì nhưng tình trạng trẻ dưới 5 tuổi bị thừa cân, béo phì tập trung cao hơn tại các quận nội thành nơi có điều kiện kinh tế cao hơn. Bên cạnh đó, có một số gia đình có trẻ em bị béo phì nhưng không xác định được. Điều đó chứng tỏ rằng con số trẻ em bị béo phì thực sự còn có thể cao hơn. Đây là con số đáng quan tâm với những mầm non tương lai. Kết quả cho thấy, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh đang phải đối diện với các thách thức lớn về dinh dưỡng và sức khoẻ của người dân. Quá trình đô thị hóa kéo theo sự gia tăng dân số cơ học, xu hướng già hóa dân số, sự thay đổi lối sống và ảnh hưởng của thói quen tiêu thụ nhiều thức ăn nhanh đã dẫn tới một số bất cập trong vấn đề dinh dưỡng của trẻ em
