Thủ tướng Nga cũng đề cập đến ngân sách quốc phòng. Theo ông, quyết định tăng ngân sách quốc phòng 5 năm trước là một quyết định đúng đắn, bởi vì “hiện trạng lực lượng vũ trang của chúng ta đang ở mức kém hơn”. Ông Medvedev cũng khẳng định: “Nếu chúng ta không có được một lực lượng vũ trang đủ mạnh thì đất nước của chúng ta không thể tồn tại”. Người đứng đầu Chính phủ Nga cũng cho biết, mặc dù ngân sách quốc phòng cho các hoạt động quân sự của Nga ở Syria là một bí mật, nhưng nó nằm trong khuôn khổ ngân sách.
