Hướng dẫn viên phải chọn lựa vị trí cho khách dễ dàng quan sát đối tượng tham quan một cách khoa học, hợp lý. Chọn lựa vị trí trên phương tiện đang di chuyển, trên đường đi bộ và vị trí tại điểm dừng tham quan mà khách đã rời khỏi phương tiện vận chuyển. Cần phải dựa vào thời tiết, loại phương tiện … mà chọn lựa vị trí quan sát sao cho nhanh chóng, chính xác, thuận lợi và an toàn. Khi tham quan từ vị trí trên phương tiện di chuyển (tàu thủy, ô tô), hướng dẫn viên phải có sự hội ý, bàn bạc từ trước với người điều khiển phương tiện đó.
