Được Phát triển từ Khoa Quản trị kinh doanh, những năm đầu mới thành lập Viện Quản trị kinh doanh gặp rất nhiều khó khăn về cơ sở vật chất, số lượng sinh viên, học viên đăng ký học không nhiều. Để thực hiện được chiến lược đào tạo, nghiên cứu khoa học và hợp tác quốc tế, Viện Quản trị kinh doanh đã và đang triển khai từng bước các kế hoạch, kịp thời định hướng phát triển viện theo xu hướng hội nhập và phát triển.
Quá trình hội nhập nền kinh tế của Việt Nam đòi hỏi các nhà quản lý phải có hiểu biết sâu sắc về Kinh tế và Quản trị Kinh doanh, có tư duy và tác phong làm việc năng động và chuyên nghiệp. Những kiến thức và kỹ năng đó cần được rèn luyện và phát triển trong một môi trường giáo dục năng động, sáng tạo, không ngừng đổi mới và thực sự chuyên nghiệp.

Về đào tạo, Viện Quản trị kinh doanh đào tạo các cấp độ cử nhân và cao học quản trị kinh doanh: Quản trị kinh doanh bằng tiếng việt V-BBA, E-BBA và Quản trị kinh doanh bằng tiếng anh V-EBA, E-MBA. Chương trình đào tạo cử nhân chính quy ngành Quản trị kinh doanh theo chuẩn quốc tế nhằm đào tạo nhà quản trị chuyên nghiệp, tự tin, năng động, sáng tạo và có năng lực để làm việc trong môi trường cạnh tranh và nhiều áp lực của nền kinh tế toàn cầu. Chương trình Cao học Quản trị Kinh doanh bằng tiếng Anh của Viện Quản trị Kinh doanh, Đại học Kinh tế Quốc dân (gọi tắt là E-MBA) là chương trình đào tạo cao học bằng tiếng Anh chất lượng cao được xây dựng theo kết cấu tương tự các chương trình MBA của một số trường đại học của Mỹ có điều chỉnh phù hợp với điều kiện Việt Nam. 3. Trung tâm Pháp Việt Đào tạo về Quản lý (CFVG):
Trung tâm Pháp Việt Đào tạo về Quản lý (CFVG) được thành lập là kết quả của sự hợp tác giữa chính phủ Việt Nam và Bộ Ngoại giao Pháp, và do Phòng Thương mại và Công nghiệp Paris (CCIP) triển khai hoạt động. Chương trình MBA (Thạc sĩ Quản trị Kinh doanh) được tổ chức tại Hà Nội. Trung tâm đặt trụ sở chính tại Trường Đại học Kinh tế quốc dân.
Năm 2005, Trung tâm Pháp Việt Đào tạo về Quản lý (CFVG) trở thành thành viên của EFMD (Tổ chức châu Âu về phát triển quản lý) và đăng ký chứng nhận chất lượng châu Âu cho các chương trình của CFVG (Chương trình EPAS –EFMD hệ thống chứng nhận chất lượng). Chương trình MBA của CFVG được nhận chứng nhận chất lượng EPAS của tổ chức EFMD. Chính phủ Việt Nam và Pháp ký thỏa thuận mới cho sự phát triển của CFVG. Chương trình Thạc sĩ Kinh tế Ngân hàng Tài chính là một chương trình Thạc sĩ chuyên ngành của trường Đại học thương mại ESCP EUROPE thông qua các Hội thảo của các trường đại học thương mại.
Ngoài các chương trình đào tạo, Trung tâm Pháp Việt Đào tạo về Quản lý (CFVG) còn tham gia các hoạt động về nghiên cứu khoa học, trao đổi học thuật với các học giả trên thế giới.


4. Các đơn vị khác:
Viện Quản lý Châu Á – Thái Bình Dương (APIM) là một đơn vị trực thuộc trường Đại học Kinh tế Quốc dân. Viện được chính thức thành lập vào tháng 10 năm 2010 nhằm đáp ứng nhu cầu phát triển năng lực và tri thức quản lý quốc tế. Viện chú trọng vào việc sáng tạo và truyền đạt tri thức trong quản lý kinh tế, quản lý công, quản trị kinh doanh, và các lĩnh vực khoa học xã hội liên quan. Cách tiếp cận của Viện là kết hợp giữa tri thức quốc tế với kinh nghiệm cụ thể của các vùng miền nhằm phát triển các giải pháp quản lý hiện đại và phù hợp.
Viện Chính sách Công và Quản lý, tiền thân là Trung tâm Kinh tế Phát triển và Chính sách công Việt Nam – Hà Lan. Viện Chính sách Công và Quản lý có chức năng tổ chức thực hiện các hoạt động nghiên cứu khoa học, tư vấn và đào tạo, bồi dưỡng ngắn hạn, đào tạo đại học và sau đại học theo các dự án liên kết và nhiệm vụ cụ thể do Hiệu trưởng giao trong lĩnh vực chính sách công và quản lý và các lĩnh vực kinh tế khác có liên quan. Mục tiêu chính của Viện Chính sách Công và Quản lý là thúc đẩy sự phát triển kinh tế và xã hội bằng cách tăng cường năng lực của các cá nhân và tổ chức thông qua giáo dục, đào tạo, tư vấn, nghiên cứu và phân tích chính sách. Đội ngũ nhân sự của Viện bao gồm những nhà nghiên cứu có uy tín được đào tạo bài bản ở những trường đại học và viện nghiên cứu danh tiếng ở các nước phát triển như Anh, Hà Lan, Mỹ, Nhật Bản. Viện Chính sách Công và Quản lý thiết lập một môi trường làm việc chuyên nghiệp, thân thiện cùng với sự hỗ trợ đầy đủ các trang thiết bị như: thư viện, phòng hội thảo, phòng máy tính chuyên biệt.
