Một điểm khác biệt so với các năm trước là trong quý I/2012, từ ngày 13/2/2012 tỷ giá mua vào của Sở Giao dịch NHNN được điều chỉnh cao hơn tỷ giá mua vào của các NHTM. Điều này nhằm khuyến khích các NHTM bán lại cho NHNN ngoại tệ mua được từ các doanh nghiệp và dân cư, tạo điều kiện cho NHNN thực hiện mục tiêu tăng dự trữ ngoại hối quốc gia.
