Hiện nay, Việt Nam đẩy mạnh xuất khẩu những mặt hàng là thế mạnh của đất nước và đã có những chiến lược xuất khẩu cụ thể cho từng mặt hàng, trong đó chiến lược xuất khẩu tiêu đã giúp mặt hàng tiêu của nước ta ngày càng khẳng định vị thế trên thị trường thế giới.
Bộ Nông nghiệp và Phát triển Nông thôn chủ trương nâng dần tỷ trọng xuất khẩu hạt tiêu chế biến trong trong tổng kim ngạch vì có lợi hơn so với xuất khẩu hạt tiêu dạng thô, nó làm tăng giá trị gia tăng của sản phẩm và lợi nhuận xuất khẩu.
Theo Hiệp hội Hồ tiêu Việt Nam (VPA), năm 2015, xuất khẩu tiêu Việt Nam đang chuyển hướng phát triển từ số lượng sang chất lượng. Ổn định diện tích ở mức 50.000 ha, sản lượng 100.000 tấn/năm. Hiện nay đã có 13 nhà máy chế biến hạt tiêu chất lượng theo tiêu chuẩn của Mỹ ASTA.
