Indonesia cũng nhấn mạnh ASEAN cần tiếp tục tăng cường xử lý hiệu quả các thách thức đang nổi lên, bao gồm biến đổi khí hậu, môi trường, khai thác và sử dụng tài nguyên nước trên các dòng sông một cách hợp lý để từ đó góp phần thúc đẩy phát triển bền vững và đồng đều ở khu vực. Đồng thời để thể hiện vai trò đầu tàu của mình, Indonesia cũng đã thông qua một chương trình hành động nhằm hạn chế khí thải gây hiệu ứng nhà kính bắt nguồn từ ngành công nghiệp, lâm nghiệp và nông nghiệp trong khuôn khổ cuộc đấu tranh toàn cầu chống biến đổi khí hậu.
