Đợt rét đậm kỷ lục đã khiến nhiệt độ giảm sâu xuống khắp các tỉnh Trung bộ. Tại vùng núi phía tây các tỉnh Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh đã xuất hiện băng tuyết phủ dày.

Chiều tối 24.1, băng giá và tuyết đã xuất hiện ở miền núi tỉnh Nghệ An. Hiện nhiệt độ ở các xã Nam Ngoi, Mường Lống, Nậm Cắn, Tây Sơn… (huyện miền núi Kỳ Sơn) xã Tri Lễ (huyện Quế Phong), xã Tam Hợp (huyện Tương Dương, Nghệ An) đã xuống 0 độ C và -1 độ C khiến nhiều nơi đã đóng băng.

Thời tiết giá lạnh khiến cuộc sống người dân nơi đây bị đảo lộn và sống trong lo lắng. Theo họ, thời tiết giá lạnh như vậy kéo dài sẽ khiến hoa đào không thể nở đúng vào dịp Tết, gia súc gia cầm có nguy cơ chết.

Ứng phó với tình hình, UBND tỉnh Nghệ An đã ra công điện yêu cầu tăng cường công tác phòng chống rét cho cây trồng, vật nuôi trên toàn địa bàn. Các hộ dân được khuyến khích không chăn thả, sử dụng trâu bò cày kéo trong những ngày này; tích cực che chắn chuồng trại…

Cũng do thời tiết rét hại, các phòng GD&ĐT TP.Vinh, huyện Kỳ Sơn, Tân Kỳ, Con Cuông đã có thông báo cho toàn bộ học sinh nghỉ học vào ngày 25.1.

Ông Nguyễn Trọng Hoàn, Phó Chánh văn phòng Sở GD&ĐT Nghệ An cho biết, riêng một số xã thuộc vùng sâu, vùng xã như Na Ngoi, Nậm Càn, Mường Lống, Huồi Tụ, Tây Sơn, Nậm Cắn (thuộc huyện Kỳ Sơn) do nhiệt độ đã xuống -2 độ C nên tất cả học sinh ở các cấp học đã được thông báo nghỉ học.
